Ok yup it did have me thinking so I used Google with an open mind. The question I had is what the hell was the use of ice in the urinal and came up with a few answers that actually made sense so let me share me new findings with you to this puzzling question:

• Ice is cool and smell sinks so by cooling urine the odor is cooled and goes down the drain – so it has a sanitizing effect
• Some men do not flush after using the urinal so by having ice in their you have a constant *flush* of water
• The splashing effect – it curbs splashing urine all over the place
